The Poisoned Pawn Variation.

Pin It The Poisoned Pawn Variation is the most common way of meeting 6 Bg5 amongst 2600+ players and it has also been a favourite of Bobby Fischer's. Black does not worry about covering the e5 square, but instead develops counter play by attacking b2. At first in the fifties, White couldn't believe that Black could get away with such an audacious smash and grab raid. However, ever since Black has been holding his own after 8 Qd2 Qx b2, despite a number of both creative and also very theoretical attempts from White to prove an advantage. Once more that strong black central pawn formation has worked wonders time and time again at keeping its king protected from the hungry white pieces.
