Chess Anecdotes

Some years ago there was this well-publicized conversation between Vassily Ivanchuk and Nigel Short, where the Ukrainian asked Nigel why Kasparov quit chess. The Englishman gave a long reply which boiled down to not seeing any more challenges.
To this Ivanchuk, who always thought in chessic terms, asked "But if he thought there were no more challenges for him then why doesn’t he take up the French Defense?"
Indeed, the French Defense is a whole different world, and this question turned out to be prophetic, for we are now experiencing a French boom. Aside from many new advocates taking up the French, including Wesley So, you now see a lot of new books coming out on beating the French, winning with the French, sacrifices you can use against the French, on an opening repertoire designed based on the French, etc. etc.
