Pelikan VariationHere is it very surprising that
Why Black left d5-square so weak. Indeed the
move ...e5 has clear positional advantage. The
d4-Knight is driven avway from its centre position.
And White has leess fredom of movement in the
cnetre and on the kingside. 6.Ndb5 d6 7.Bg5 a6
8.Na3 b5 A Shveshnikov Sicilian. Various  names
are been given to this system in different books
(Pelikan System). Grandmaster Evgeny Sveshnikov
has worked out the positional and laid the
theorotical foundation of e5-system. 9.Nd5

This move prepares Nc2 followed by a4. White
tries to eliminate the b5-pawn and give the light-
squared bishop an active position on c4. The most
pressing problems for Black are to finish hsi
development, and find better squares for his
pieces, especially his bishops. the e5 pawn is free
from any attack from the white pawns.  11...b4

The White Knight, placed on d5, is cut off from
the remaining light pieces. The g5 Bishop controls
e3- square and the b5-pawn prevents the enemy
bishop from landing on c4, waiting for the move
...a5 stopping Nc2-b4.  Black has one more break
move at its disposal i.e. f7-f5 move to deal with
the d4 pawn defending the Knight on e5. 16.Qd3
Preparing a place for the rook on d1 to support the
central knight.  Here Black should aim at
distracting it with other problems.  16...Bxd5
